Academy of One: Recap 2013

Here are my winners for the film year 2013 in post order.

Best Picture: 12 Years a Slave

Best Actor in a Leading Role: Chiwetel Ejiofor - 12 Years a Slave

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Michael Fassbender - 12 Years a Slave

Best Actress in a Leading Role: Sandra Bullock - Gravity

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Lupita Nyong’o - 12 Years a Slave

Best Director: Steve McQueen - 12 Years a Slave

A quick note before my closing paragraphs. I felt that I didn’t have as firm a grasp on the films of 2013 as I really wanted and I fear that with time and other biases, I may not be making sound, reasoned opinions.

So, I am going to take a few weeks off and return to you on March 24th with renewed vigor having brushed up, or caught up, on the films of 2012, 2011, and 2010.

I think I will be likely doing this hiatus after every group of three years to let me get my opinions more honed and far less vague as they may have been for some of my 2013 posts.

That means after this point it will be 21 weeks on and 4 weeks off, not counting time for that current year’s Oscar discussion, which will likely happen in September of every year, regardless of which weeks those fall on, but definitely not in the middle of another year’s discussion.

All right, it looks like they’ve started the music. That wraps us up for this week. So, between now and next time you can find me on Twitter @zyoungs108, you can like my Facebook page @zachyoungswrites, and visit my website, www.zachyoungs.com for links to where you can buy my self-published works. Here on my blog you may also be interested to read a few serialized blog stories that I post every Wednesday and Sunday.

A new post of Academy of One will be available every Friday on this very site.

Thanks for reading. I can’t wait to dive in Friday, March 24th, with the Best Picture Nominees of 2012.
